US Peace Corps/Ukraine JOB OPPORTUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT Vacancy Number: PCMO 0907 Position title: Peace Corps Medical Officer (PCMO) PSC Grade: PSC 11 Opening Date: Immediate Deadline: August 27, 2007 Location: Kiev, Ukraine Area of Consideration: All Sources The United States Peace Corps seeks a Licensed Medical Doctor to serve as a contracted Peace Corps Medical Officer (PCMO) based in Kiev, Ukraine. The PCMO will be the provider of heath care to U.S. Peace Corps Volunteers in Ukraine and will work under the supervision of the Peace Corps Country Director in Kiev and the Peace Corps Office of Medical Services in Washington DC. DUTIES Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: • Provides primary health care to Peace Corps Trainees and Volunteers including diagnosis, treatment of common illnesses and injuries in accordance with Peace Corps medical guidelines; • Individual short-term counseling for adjustment issues, emotional problem, disease prevention, stress management; • Response and medical management of injuries sustained during accidents or during episodes of acute illness; • Triage and appropriate referral to physicians in the community, or outside the country, as indicated, for Volunteers with health problems beyond the scope of the PCMO; • Work coordination of one Medical Assistant in office; • Design and presentation of health training sessions on Nutrition, Sexual health, Common Illness, Emotional Health and First Aid; • Site visits to Peace Corps Volunteers throughout Ukraine; • Administrative tasks of the medical office including budget management, timely documentation in the medical record, monthly and episodic case reports, request for consultation to Office of Medical Services in Washington. • Seven day 24 hour Call Duty on a rotating basis with the other PCMOs. . QUILIFICATIONS Education Completed Medical School and licensed as a Medical Doctor in Ukraine Work Experience Three years recent relevant primary care experience. Languages Excellent oral and written fluency in English. Ukrainian or Russian literacy. Other Abilities and Skills: • Proficiency in the assessment and management of minor acute and stable chronic illnesses, STD screening and counseling; • Independent practice experience; • Experience in trauma triage utilizing local facilities with various response levels; • Ability to order and interpret appropriate laboratory and diagnostic test; • Demonstrated ability to understand, respect and relate to persons of different cultures; • Adult teaching and/or mental health counseling experience and expertise; • Experience in the management and administration of a health unit; including inventory management, laboratory skills, sterilization; • Demonstrated interpersonal relations skills, helpful personal disposition, and willingness to approach professional tasks from a service point of view; • Verbal and written communication skills; • Computer literacy.
